Philosophy & Method
The Art and
Science of Recovery
Our Philosophy
Medicine Without Compromise
At Refrom, we reject the notion that rehabilitation must be a diminished experience. Patients who have undergone complex surgery, serious injury, or a significant neurological event deserve care that is not only clinically rigorous but also humane — designed with their whole person in mind.
Our approach is built on three inseparable pillars: evidence-based medicine, personalised attention, and the restorative environment of the Swiss Alps. None of these can be sacrificed in favour of another.
The result is a rehabilitation experience that is as effective as it is restorative — one that patients describe not merely as recovery, but as transformation.

Our Methodology
How We Work
Multidisciplinary Assessment
Every patient undergoes a comprehensive evaluation involving orthopaedic, neurological, physiotherapy, and wellness specialists. We build a complete clinical picture before any programme commences.
Bespoke Programme Design
Using assessment findings, our clinical team constructs an individual programme with specific therapeutic goals, measurement milestones, and a realistic timeline tailored to each patient.
Intensive Daily Therapy
Patients engage in structured, supervised therapy sessions — typically 4–6 hours of active rehabilitation per day — supported by rest, nutrition, and alpine environment time.
Continuous Clinical Monitoring
Weekly clinical reviews ensure the programme adapts to patient progress. Our team adjusts protocols in real time to reflect functional improvements and evolving needs.
Psychological Support
Recovery is as much psychological as it is physical. Our team includes specialists in medical psychology who support patients through the emotional dimensions of serious injury.
Discharge & Continuity
Refrom's involvement does not end at discharge. We provide detailed handover documentation and maintain clinical contact for up to 12 months post-programme.

Alpine Therapy
Nature as Medicine
The therapeutic value of mountain environments has been documented since the 19th century. At altitude, the body adapts in ways that support cardiovascular function, respiratory efficiency, and metabolic health. Leysin’s location at 1,400 metres provides these benefits in a measured, accessible form.
Beyond the physiological, the psychological benefits of alpine environments are well established. Reduced ambient noise, increased natural light, and connection with the natural world demonstrably support mood, sleep, and the broader recovery process.
At Refrom, outdoor alpine therapy is integrated into all programmes where the patient’s condition permits. Mountain walks, outdoor physical therapy, and supervised nature exposure are part of the clinical offering — not optional extras.
